THE AMERICAN EPIDEMIC: METH (Rapid Aging/Death)

www.montanameth.org

METH AGES THE ADDICT*
WATCH:  "NOT EVEN ONCE"

FLOWER CHILD ANSWER:
"As an alternative health practitioner, who has specialized in chinese medicine for over two decades now, it is clear to me how this highly addictive drug destroys beauty and soul in no time at all.  When the kidney - which is responsible for all genetic information, is constantly bombarded with the push to get up and go in any addiction - it will began to lose its integrity very quickly.  In young adults it will not be apparent for 3-5 years, but the energy of the kidney that is constantly getting depleted will cause the physical kidney to age on an average of 4-5x as fast as in a normal healthy person."

Recent Research Findings on Crystal Methamphetamine:
  • long-term use destroys nerve cells in the brain that regulate dopamine, muscle movement, memory, and decision-making
  • brain damage can be wide-spread and permanent
  • floods the body with adrenaline — the same hormone that prepares us for emergencies
  • artificially triggering this the adrenaline fight/flight response over and over again has serious consequences on the nervous system
  • will diminish scores of neurotransmitters [chemicals that help us to process life and make core reality beliefs in our personality
  • episodes of paranoia and anxiety become more frequent and last longer lasting in duration.
  • increases the blocked blood vessels within the brain can increased the chance of stroke
  • manipulates dopamine levels - dopamine delivers a sense of reward and pleasure
  • dopamine is associated with body movement - when diminished dopamine causes paralysis or a Parkinson’s-like tremors and rigidity
  • abnormal levels of dopamine and a person can become paranoid, hear voices and get twisted thoughts - their will is obstructed by fear
  • increase and decreases serotonin levels - serotonin is involved in regulating sleep and sensory perception, plays a role in moods and regulating body temperature, and is involved with many emotional disorders like schizophrenia, phobias, super-aggressive states and obsessive-compulsive behavior
  • abnormal levels of serotonin can make it difficult (or impossible) to have an orgasm - sexual dysfunction is common in meth users and the primary reason for impotence in young adults users.

HORMONE CHANGE, ONE OF THE MAJOR SIDE EFFECTS OF "METH"

Ann N Y Acad Sci. 2006 Aug;1074:282-94.
Estrogen, testosterone, and methamphetamine.
Dluzen DEMcDermott JL.

The gonadal steroid hormone, estrogen, can diminish the degree of striatal dopamine depletion resulting from methamphetamine. In this article, we describe the conditions of this estrogen neuroprotection as well as the potential for estrogen and testosterone to enhance methamphetamine-induced neurodegeneration of the nigrostriatal dopaminergic system. When administered prior to a neurotoxic regimen of methamphetamine, estrogen significantly decreases the amount of striatal dopamine depletion in intact or gonadectomized female, but not male, mice. This capacity for estrogen to function as a neuroprotectant can occur quite rapidly, at 30 min prior to methamphetamine administration, and with relatively low doses of estrogen (1 microg estradiol benzoate). Estrogen remains an effective neuroprotectant in neonatally  female mice treated with testosterone, but not in female mice that were gonadectomized prior to puberty. Nor does estrogen demonstrate any beneficial effects when administered after methamphetamine. Recent data have indicated some conditions where gonadal steroids can increase the extent of striatal neurodegeneration in response to methamphetamine. Specifically, when some existing perturbation is present in the nigrostriatal dopaminergic system, treatment with estrogen enhances the extent of striatal dopamine depletion to methamphetamine. Similarly, increased striatal dopamine depletion to methamphetamine is observed in gonadectomized male mice treated with testosterone. PMID: 17105924 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE]

More on this important hormone:[...Thus, we conclude that estrogen or its α-receptor is an absolute necessity for fertility in the male.]
Estrogen is the major hormone responsible for the characteristics typically thought of as female. Required for proper development of sexual organs, completion of skeletal system, regulation of the menstrual cycle and maintenance of pregnancy, estrogen is extremely important in the growth and development of the female body. During the menstrual cycle, estrogen is secreted by the developing egg follicle and aids in thickening of the endometrium.
Also one of the major hormones of pregnancy, estrogen supports the production of fluid in the reproductive tract which enhance the survival of sperm by slightly neutralizing cervical secretions. Towards the end of pregnancy, estrogen promotes the growth of milk ducts within the breasts and enhances the effect of prolactin (major hormone responsible for lactation in the female).

NOTE FROM THE FLOWER CHILD:
"So, basically what the above is saying is that crystal meth amphetamine, DRAMATICALLY DECREASES ESTROGEN in the brain due to the dopamine/testosterone connection.  This can be a very serious health complication."
  • For men, even worse pubescent boys (13-17), hormonal imbalances can cause impotence or "crystal dick", the slang for not having the ability to reach an erection.
  • In women, fertility issues such as not having a regular cycle for proper conception of the fetus - meaning you will not be able to get pregnant with this type of hormonal imbalance.
